Guitar Teacher – Sunshine Coast

Harry has been a working musician, guitar teacher and bass teacher since 1992. He started learning guitar at the age of 12 and joined his first band at 16. His formal education in music began with classical guitar lessons at age 17 followed by B.Mus degree in music teaching and performance at the Indonesian Institute of Arts.

After completing his degree, he took guitar lessons with guitar gurus in Chicago, including Jack Cecchini.

To improve his method of teaching, Harry completed guitar courses at Berklee College of Music in Boston USA for Jazz guitar, Blues guitar and Classic Rock guitar. He has also completed the Australian Certificate IV in training and assessments.

Harry also plays piano and drum as piano was a compulsory instrument and percussion was his secondary instrument when completing his music degree.

For three consecutive years he was awarded the Best Guitarist in Java in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Harry has been a working since 1990, including playing lead guitar in various bands for public events as well as private functions, and in pubs and clubs. He has done session work, arranged songs and written jingles, in addition to teaching guitar and bass, playing in an orchestra, conducting guitar workshops and judging music competitions.

Harry has played various styles of music including Blues, Rock n Roll, Country, Hard Rock, Reggae, Funk, Folk, and more. His influences are Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kirk Hammet, Paul Gilbert, Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani to name a few.

Highlights of his career include live TV performances in Indonesia, playing with the late Mats Olauson (the keyboardist from Yngwie Malmsteen’s band) and the Indonesian Wind Orchestra, and travelling around South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand for gigs.

Harry has taught in well-respected music schools including the Yamaha Music School in Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Solo and established his own private guitar school.

Many of his students have gone on to work as full-time musicians and music teachers. His former students; Donny from Solo, Hissa and Indra from Yogyakarta followed in Harry’s footsteps and were recognised as the Best Rock Guitarists for Central Java and the special province of Yogyakarta. Hissa has won the award three times.

Since 1998, Harry has established Sydney Guitar Studio and he has been working as a full time as a session musician beside teaching guitar and bass.
